Decision notes

Official-document research

Based on the cited documentation. We did not use the product, purchase a plan, or run quality, speed or reliability tests in this review.

Consider it for

  • Teams able to configure compute, authentication and deployment permissions

Choose another approach if

  • Assuming a GPU headline includes all CPU/RAM
  • Treating BYOC as no data sent to Beam

Documented terms

Default USD, tax additional; order and regional tax need confirmation. Developer USD0/month plus usage; Team USD89/month plus usage includes 3 seats, additional seats USD25. Serverless RTX4090 GPU is USD0.000192/second and H100 PCIe USD0.000972/second, plus requested CPU/RAM; GPU-attached CPU USD0.000105/physical-core-second and RAM USD0.0000055/GiB-second differ from CPU-only rates. Startup code and keep-warm are billable; server/image spin-up is excluded per FAQ. Storage includes 1TB then USD0.021/GB/month. BYOC management adds USD0.019/vCPU-hour and USD0.009/GB-hour to your cloud bill. On-demand bundled-machine prices and credit expiry are separate conditions.

Code, model and service licensing

The hosted service is proprietary; beta9's AGPL-3.0 source is separate, with redistribution duties and a corresponding-source offer to remote users of modified network versions. This does not license every model, dataset or output. As between Beam and customer, Customer Data/applications/models/outputs remain the customer's; service/security/legal processing is allowed, while training, fine-tuning, evaluation or transfer to model providers requires your direction or prior written consent. Anonymous metrics and feedback differ. BYOC sends logs/metadata; hosted logs are 30 days Developer/Team or 1 year Growth. After termination there is a 30-day retrieval window, active-system deletion within 60 days and backups within 90, with legal/breach exceptions. PHI requires an Enterprise order and signed BAA.

Basis and limits of the recorded score

Original 4.5/5 retained; its original scoring worksheet and hands-on evidence are unavailable. This documentation review did not re-score it.

Overview

Beam runs configured Python functions and web endpoints on hosted CPU/GPU resources, with queues, sandboxes, storage and separate virtual-machine options. You choose images, resources, scaling and endpoint authentication.

Hosted Beam, self-hosted beta9 and BYOC are different operating arrangements. BYOC places workloads in your cloud account but still sends scheduling metadata and application logs to Beam's control plane. Fully self-hosted beta9 uses AGPL-3.0. Budget resource components, startup code and keep-warm periods rather than treating a headline GPU rate as the total; model licences and output rights remain separate.

Pros / Cons

Pros

  • Documented function, endpoint and resource configuration
  • Hosted, BYOC and self-hosted choices

Cons

  • Resource additions and keep-warm time affect charges
  • BYOC sends logs/metadata and differs from full self-hosting

Who it's for

01

Model endpoints and GPU batch tasks

02

Controlled agent sandboxes and own-cloud workloads

Bottom line

Select the deployment arrangement first, then compare the full resource bill and the exact model/data contract.
