Civitai is where the open image-model world actually lives: the default answer to “I want a model that draws X”. Its library spans hundreds of thousands of checkpoints and LoRAs for Stable Diffusion, SDXL and FLUX — styles, characters, products, architecture — each page carrying real generations, the prompts that made them and community ratings that surface which downloads are worth the bandwidth.

The site also runs its own generator (Buzz credits) so models can be tried without local hardware, and a monetization program that has turned model-making into paid craft for some creators. The tradeoffs are the hub's nature: content moderation is contested and has shifted repeatedly under payment-processor pressure, model licenses vary wildly, and safety filtering is a user responsibility. For anyone doing serious open-model work, though, Civitai is infrastructure — the catalog from which everything else is built.
