Cody

Cody is Sourcegraph's AI assistant, and the reason it exists is code intelligence: Sourcegraph indexes every repository your organisation owns, so Cody answers questions about call sites, definitions and cross-service flow from real search results instead of embedding guesses. It runs in VS Code, JetBrains and Visual Studio and in the web app, doing completion, inline edits and chat grounded in that index, with enterprise controls over what a model may see. For onboarding onto a legacy monorepo or a fleet of services nobody remembers writing, grounding in actual references is a genuine capability rather than marketing.

Judgement: the commercial floor moved under it. Sourcegraph stopped new sign-ups for Cody Free and Cody Pro in June 2025 and withdrew those plans on 23 July 2025, dropped Cody from Enterprise Starter, and kept the assistant as a Cody Enterprise feature, which it still calls fully supported and actively developed. The current page lists Cody as supported on Sourcegraph Enterprise and says it uses the latest LLMs from major providers, without naming generations. Practically that means a seat-licensed add-on to a Sourcegraph deployment, not something you install for a hobby repo, and the company's energy visibly sits with Amp, its agent. Context stops at what your instance indexes. Choose it when you already pay for Sourcegraph and need answers across thousands of repositories; otherwise an IDE-native agent is simpler.
