Connected Papers helps explore papers related to a chosen starting paper. Its official method describes a similarity graph using co-citation and bibliographic coupling over the Semantic Scholar corpus, rather than a direct citation tree. A connection can therefore join papers that do not cite each other. The public graph legend uses node size for citations and node color for publication year; color is not a guaranteed topic label.
Use the graph, Prior Works and Derivative Works as discovery aids, then check the papers and references themselves. Selection around an origin paper is not proof of complete database coverage, a complete citation lineage or a systematic-review search. Try more than one seed and keep a separate record of databases, queries, dates and eligibility decisions when completeness matters.
