Gemini Code Assist

Gemini Code Assist is now the enterprise half of Google's coding AI, and the consumer half has left. Google's overview page, read on 2026-09-20, carries a notice that its tools have been 'unified into a single, multi-agent platform called Antigravity', and that from 18 June 2026 the Code Assist IDE extensions and Gemini CLI 'stopped serving requests' for the individual, Pro and Ultra tiers. What remains is a Google-Cloud-billed product in Standard and Enterprise editions for VS Code, JetBrains IDEs, Android Studio and Cloud Shell Editor: completions, generation from comments, unit tests, chat, transformation and an agent mode, on Gemini's long context plus your project's identity and IAM policy. Its feature page names Gemini 3.

Judgement: this is a procurement choice, not an editor choice. Billing is per-user-hour licences on the cloud bill — on 2026-09-20 the pricing page listed Standard at 0.031232877 USD per hour monthly or 0.026027397 on a 12-month commitment, Enterprise at 0.073972603 and 0.061643836 — so there is no flat seat price and nothing to self-host: inference is Google's, while governance, private-repo customisation and indemnification are Enterprise items activated per project. Where it loses: greenfield editing is not Cursor's, the model menu is Google's, and a line renamed three times in two years ages its own docs. Pick it when the cloud is already GCP and security review is the blocker; the free individual path is now Antigravity.
