HuggingChat is Hugging Face’s chat client for open-weight models, sold on the site as “the chat app powered by open source AI models”, and its real value is the roster. As checked today that means DeepSeek V4.1 Flash next to DeepSeek V4 Pro and V4 Flash, Z.ai’s GLM-5.3 and GLM-5.3-Flash — advertised on the page as a natively multimodal 320B mixture-of-experts beating GLM-5.2 at a tenth of the price — Moonshot’s Kimi K3, the Qwen 3.8 line, gpt-oss in 20B and 120B sizes plus a safeguard variant, and Gemma and Llama builds. Switching is free and instant, and no API key or card stands between you and a frontier-class open model.

Where it loses is capacity and permanence. These are shared hosted endpoints, so the weights that are live today get rotated out on a schedule you do not control, the queue you hit depends on how popular that model is this week, and the free roster is whatever the vendor can afford to keep running — check it the day you care, not the day you read this. There is no enterprise wrapper either: the paid tier is Hugging Face PRO at $9 a month, and the benefits the pricing page lists are hub-side (inference credits, ZeroGPU quota and queue priority, storage, Spaces perks) rather than a guaranteed chat upgrade, so throughput is bought as capacity, not as a better assistant. Use it to compare open weights side by side and to keep an honest second opinion off closed APIs; avoid it where a model must be pinned or a conversation auditable.
