Janitor AI is a character-chat site first and an AI product second: the personas are written by users, and which model answers you is partly your decision. Its help centre documents a free in-house default engine named JanitorLLM (JLLM) and a supported way to route chats to third-party model providers through what the docs call a proxy — “a proxy is simply a bridge” — plus guides for writing characters, long definitions and troubleshooting broken chats. Better models and unlimited message volume sit behind credit purchases or a bigger external plan. The official iOS app is listed as “Janitor: Interactive Stories” by JanitorAI, INC, rated 18+, English the only listed language, with a monthly Janitor+ purchase.

Judgement: this is not a work tool. There is no grounded research, no file analysis, no tool use, so comparing it with ChatGPT or Claude for productivity is a category error. Where it loses is friction and trust — the web front end refused our non-browser fetches outright, so the on-site plan pricing could not be re-read from here; output on the free engine trails paid models; and most of what you meet is community-written, adult-oriented material whose boundaries you configure yourself. Where it wins is catalogue depth plus control, which is rare in one product. Pick it as an adult who wants interactive fiction and is willing to manage a key, a proxy and a filter; choose Chai, Replika or Character.ai if you would rather have a polished app than a workshop.
