Decision notes
Official-document research
Based on the cited documentation. We did not use the product, purchase a plan, or run quality, speed or reliability tests in this review.
Consider it for
- Engineers needing explicit state, routing and review boundaries
Choose another approach if
- Automatic permanent storage without a backend
- Exactly-once external actions assumed from checkpoints
Pricing and conditions
Documented terms
MIT library code has no software royalty. Models, checkpoint databases, memory stores, tracing, deployment and operations can cost separately. LangSmith Plus's $39/seat/month plus usage is a service price, not a LangGraph library fee. Hosted taxes, currency, training terms and a deployment quote were not verified.
Pricing source read:
Pricing or terms sourceCode, model and service licensing
MIT applies to graph library code, not Agent Server service access, third-party models, data or output rights. Checkpoints and cross-thread Stores may contain sensitive content; select retention, pruning and access rules. Provider and hosted-service training/retention contracts remain unverified, so self-hosting is not a blanket privacy guarantee.
Basis and limits of the recorded score
Original 4.5/5 retained; the original scoring worksheet and hands-on evidence are unavailable. This documentation review did not re-score it.
Overview
LangGraph coordinates stateful graphs mixing deterministic steps and agent calls. It can be used without LangChain. Checkpointers preserve per-thread graph state, while Stores handle cross-thread memory; these are different persistence choices, not automatic permanent memory in every local application.
An in-memory saver loses data at restart. Persistent databases, pruning and data permissions need configuration. Agent Server's managed persistence does not imply the library provides it automatically, and recovery support is not proof that external tool side effects occur exactly once. LangSmith tracing and deployment are separate services.

Pros / Cons
Pros
- Explicit state and control flow
- Choice of persistence backends
Cons
- Persistence and cleanup require design
- Side effects and retries need application safeguards
Who it's for
A workflow with approval checkpoints
A recoverable multi-step agent application
Bottom line
Choose persistence and safe tool semantics before treating a graph as production-ready.
