Overview
n8n connects triggers, branching logic, app integrations and optional AI Agent tools in a visual workflow. Cloud provides hosting; self-hosting puts deployment, upgrades, backups and execution-data retention under the operator's control. Code nodes provide custom logic, with capabilities depending on the runtime and edition.
Self-hosting does not make every workflow private or cost-free: connected services and models may receive data and charge separately. Telemetry is enabled by default; self-hosted diagnostics can be disabled, while paid-license usage reporting remains required. Cloud has no telemetry opt-out. Review the AI Assistant's workflow-context transmission and each connected service before handling sensitive data. Community is source-available under restricted-use terms, not OSI open source.
