Code, model and service licensing

A hosted personal-use subscription, not an open-source or content-rights licence. Readwise's terms require rights to uploaded material and grant it a broad licence to process user content for service operation, development and improvement. Connections to note apps and optional AI involve third-party terms and data processing; the privacy policy describes collection of saved content and integration tokens. Buying Full does not grant redistribution rights to books, newsletters or PDFs. Review permission and export behaviour before moving confidential material.

Basis and limits of the recorded score

The existing 4.7 editorial score is retained; no original scoring record was found. This documentation review does not re-score Readwise, establish best-in-class quality or demonstrate improved memory.

Overview

Readwise collects highlights for Daily Review and a searchable library. Reader is its separate reading interface for saved articles, RSS, newsletters, PDFs and EPUBs; access comes with Readwise Full, not Lite. Reader highlights flow into Readwise and supported note-taking exports. This is not unrestricted two-way editing: the export documentation says later edits to already exported highlights, notes or tags do not automatically propagate and may require a refresh.

Ghostreader provides AI help with reading. Global Ghostreader searches the library with source citations on web and desktop; mobile supports individual-document chat. Included AI options and optional use of your own OpenAI API key differ by workflow. Feed auto-summarization with your own key uses your API credits. Check citations and generated summaries against the original; this review did not measure accuracy, retention of learning, sync reliability or migration effort.

Choose Lite for highlight review, or assess Full when the reading queue, exports and Reader AI are needed. The service has no ongoing free plan after its 30-day trial. Import only content you have rights to use, and review cloud, integration and AI permissions before saving confidential material; Readwise states that the service has no end-to-end encryption.
