Zed

Zed is what you get when the team that built Atom spends a decade thinking about what went wrong: a GPU-accelerated editor in Rust that opens huge repositories instantly, keeps keystrokes sub-frame, and layers collaboration and AI on top without the lag. Version control, language servers and a multiplayer editing system (born from the same team's earlier work on Teletype) are native, not plugins.

The AI story is unusually open for an editor vendor: an agent panel for multi-file tasks, inline transformations for quick rewrites, and a model-agnostic setup that accepts Anthropic, OpenAI, Google, Ollama or your own API keys. The editor itself is free and open source, with AI usage metered.
