Product status: Historical record

The original ExLlamaV2 README marks this project archived for now and points development to ExLlamaV3. This record concerns V2 maintenance; existing installations, forks and third-party servers were not tested and are not declared unusable. V3 is a separate generation, with no automatic compatibility guarantee. This page preserves a historical product record. It is excluded from current recommendations. Official-document research

Based on the cited documentation. We did not use the product, purchase a plan, or run quality, speed or reliability tests in this review.

Consider it for

  • Developers able to maintain a compatible local GPU stack and clear model rights

Choose another approach if

  • Assuming active V2 development or current TabbyAPI compatibility
  • Users expecting a turnkey hosted service or free hardware

Pricing and conditions

Documented terms

MIT grants the V2 code without a licence fee and permits selling copies with notices; it is not a cloud or hardware quote. GPU/CPU, memory, storage, electricity, engineering, network hosting and chosen model/API costs are separate. There is no verified universal hosted currency, tax, region, billing period, allowance or overage. Archived status does not guarantee support or compatible future dependencies.

Code, model and service licensing

V2's MIT licence permits commercial use, modification and redistribution with copyright/permission notices and no warranty. It covers V2 code, not every quantized checkpoint, base model, dataset, output or dependency. TabbyAPI is separate AGPL-3.0 code; a modified network version must offer corresponding source to remote users, and its current V3 scope must be checked. Local inference does not prove all downloads, tools, logs or remote servers retain nothing or send no data. Review the actual model licence, application data path and operator terms.

Basis and limits of the recorded score

Original 4.5/5 retained; its original scoring worksheet and hands-on evidence are unavailable. This documentation review did not re-score it.

Overview

ExLlamaV2 runs supported language models on local consumer GPUs with EXL2 or 4-bit GPTQ paths, dynamic batching and cache controls. Its README now says the project is archived for now and development continues in ExLlamaV3; that does not make V3's formats and features part of V2.

Check the exact model format, PyTorch/CUDA version and compiled extension ABI. The V2 README links TabbyAPI, but current TabbyAPI main describes a V3 backend and hobby rather than production operation; select compatible historical versions instead of assuming current main is a V2 drop-in. Hardware needs, quality and throughput were not measured.

Pros / Cons

Pros

  • MIT-licensed local inference code
  • Documented quantization and batching controls

Cons

  • V2 is archived and needs version maintenance
  • Model rights, GPU capacity and server compatibility remain separate

Who it's for

01

Maintaining an existing compatible V2 deployment

02

Studying EXL2 quantization and local inference

Bottom line

Treat V2 as an archived library for an explicitly pinned stack, not a promise of current V3 or server compatibility.

Historical features

Local supported-model inference
EXL2 and 4-bit GPTQ support
Dynamic batching and prompt/KV caching
